'Today I was a pilot' is an image from the series of "Today I was...". This group of photographs are from a collection of really great locations, I photographed them but have always felt like they needed a person in the scene to move the story forward, to establish a narrative. This idea become a vehicle for me to explore the concept of being an unemployed photographer who is utilizing his time by trying to improve his craft. In the process of doing so, I wonder what it would be like to do a lot of different things, as unqualified as I am to do anything else beside be an artist, there are so many different dreams that make me wonder about the possibilities. Artist Shawn Harris dresses in costume to play a character who may have just walked off the runway, crawling out of a cockpit from a plane that he had just landed. This fog filled airport sit on the outskirts of the town of half moon bay just 20 minutes south of San Francisco on highway 1. The weather is dark, foggy, and very breezy.
